Idaho Panhandle RAC Decides on Projects

The Idaho Panhandle RAC made their recommendations on funding projects with Title II money, completing their decisions at their March 11, 2016 meeting.

The RAC entertained 42 proposals totaling $2,227,934.64 in funding requests.  The two years of Title II funds available is somewhere north of $1.13 million.  Minutes are available for the February 19, 2016 meeting where they allocated some funds for some “time sensitive” projects, and the March 11, 2016 meeting where they made recommendations on the rest of the Title II funds.

EASTERN IDAHO RAC RECOMMENDS 2015 PROJECTS

The Eastern Idaho RAC recommended 68 natural resource projects totaling $369,194 during its June 30, 2015 meeting in Idaho Falls.  The RAC reviewed a total of 83 projects requesting $648,000 provided by ten Eastern Idaho Counties through the Reauthorization of The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000.

 

“We appreciate the support of Eastern Idaho Counties that provide funding for these projects”, stated Caribou-Targhee Forest Supervisor, Garth Smelser  “We also appreciate the members of the East Idaho RAC who volunteer their time to review, discuss and recommended these projects.”

Projects must be located on or adjacent to National Forest System lands within the RAC boundaries.  The Eastern Idaho RAC includes Bannock, Bear Lake, Bonneville, Caribou, Clark, Franklin, Fremont, Madison, Oneida, and Teton Counties.  Following is a brief summary of projects approved and total amounts of funding within each county.

Summer 2015 RAC meetings are Scheduled

A number of meetings have been scheduled for summer 2015 for the Resource Advisory Committees in Idaho.  The Secure Rural Schools Act has been extended for two more years and Title II funds are available for RACs to recommend for resource projects on National Forests.

Here is the line up:

North Central Idaho RAC meets June 17-18 in Grangeville at the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.

South Central Idaho RAC meets June 24, 2015 at the Idaho Fish and Game offices in Jerome.

Central Idaho RAC meets June 30 in Salmon at the Public Lands Center.

Eastern Idaho RAC meets June 30 in Idaho Falls at the Caribou-Targhee National Forest headquarters.

Southwest Idaho RAC plans two meetings, the first is July 21 and the second August 4.  Both meetings will be held at the USDA Service Center, 1805 Highway 16 in Emmett.

 

 

 

 

 

 

EASTERN IDAHO RESOURCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

EASTERN IDAHO:  The Eastern Idaho Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will be meeting May 5, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until their business is complete (approximately 3:00 pm) at the Caribou-Targhee National Forest Headquarters, 1405 Hollipark Drive, Idaho Falls, ID  83401.  The purpose of this meeting is to recommend projects for funding for 2013-6th year project proposals.  

According to RAC coordinator Lynn Ballard, the RAC has received 81 project proposals for the 2013-6th year recommendations. The projects currently before the RAC total about $636,378.  The Eastern Idaho RAC has an estimated $422,000 in Title II funds to award for 2014.

The projects recommended by the RAC will benefit the natural resources on and adjacent to National Forest System lands located in Bannock, Bear Lake, Bonneville, Caribou, Clark, Franklin, Fremont, Madison, Oneida, and Teton Counties in Eastern Idaho.  The funding is made available by the counties through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2008. 

 

 

 

The 15 member RAC works closely with the Forest Service to recommend projects that will benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils and watersheds; maintain roads, trails and infrastructure; or control noxious weeds on or adjacent to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

North Central Idaho RAC to meet April 10 to Recommend Projects for SRS Funding

Grangeville, ID–The North Central Idaho Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is scheduled to meet on Thursday, April 10 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Office, 104 Airport Road, Grangeville, Idaho, in the Confluence Conference Rooms. The meeting is open to the public.
The RAC is authorized under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act and operates in compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). The purpose of the RAC is to improve collaborative relationships and to provide advice and recommendations to the Forest Service concerning projects and funding consistent with Title II of the Act.
Secure Rural Schools Payments to the States were announced April 4, 2014. The North Central Idaho RAC has an estimated total of $830,066.00 of Title II funds to allocate towards projects.
The agenda for the April meeting includes recommending FY 2014 projects for funding. On March 12, the RAC members met to hear presentations on FY 2014 project proposals.
RAC-funded projects must be located on National Forest System Lands in Idaho, Clearwater and Latah counties or on nearby lands if the project will benefit resources on the National Forests. Projects can be completed by Forest Service personnel, through partnership agreements or by open-bid contracting with individuals and corporations. The RAC works closely with the Forest Service to recommend projects that will benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils, watersheds and other resources; maintains roads, trails and other infrastructure; or controls noxious weeds.

Senate Hearing on Reauthorization of Secure Rural Schools

The US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources will hold a hearing on Tuesday March 19 concerning reauthorizing and reforming the Secure Rural Schools Act.
